Warning from State Farm about Toyota
In 2007, State Farm which is a private insurance company had informed the US Governmental authorities about a series of accidents which involved vehicles manufactured by Toyota Corporation. Kip Diggs, the company spokesperson had stated that a rising number of claims with regard to Toyota vehicles were being received and this lead them to suspect that there was something wrong with the vehicle. They reported this suspicion to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety administration). They felt that there was some other reason behind the occurrence of these accidents. State Farm is an insurance company based out of Illinois and they provide insurance facilities to a majority of the states in USA. Once State Farm had done its duty of informing the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety administration) in 2007, they continued to stay in touch with the Government authorities.
Once the investigation of this suspicion was complete, the Toyota Company had recall eight million vehicles belonging to that particular model. The company had to face a lot of embarrassment since all the cars which were being recalled had to be fixed once again at an unimaginable speed and a serious doubt about the credibility of the company started creeping into the minds of people all over the world. State Farm had brought the same defects to light which had also been reaffirmed by Toyota.
But no other insurance company had been able to detect the faults which were found by State Farm. Bob Hart wig, the President of Insurance Information Institute has stated that no other insurance company has such a wide market that they could notice the presence of such a trend. He has also stated the statistics and observations provided by State Farm have proved to be extremely useful even during the past. Another instance of detection by State Farm had taken place when they reported about the tires made by Bridgestone which had been fitted on the Ford Explorer more than ten years ago. State Farm had helped in detecting as well as solving this problem and they have also helped in solving many other cases with regard to auto insurance in the past.
Now a lot of auto insurance companies have started digging into the records of their previous claims in order to determine where the fault lay when the accident had occurred. They are trying to find out whether the accident had taken place due to some kind of mechanical fault in the vehicle and whether the driver was not at fault as stated in the report. A spokesperson for the Progressives auto insurance company has stated that they are investigating some of their closed cases in order to find out whether the accident occurred due to the defect in the vehicles which had been manufactured by Toyota. They also would like to know exactly how many people have been affected by the fault of the auto manufacturing company.
